Drupal Programmer
 —————————————

Description:
We are a well funded Web startup of US origin with eyes on a fast and spectacular success. If you are an experienced Drupal programmer and would like the opportunity to partake in our success, read on…

We need an experienced Drupal coder. We are a talented, young, energetic team with the resources to make a difference. Now we need you to ramp our production to a new level. We have so much being developed right now that our current team is maxed out, we have multiple development streams that need modules coded - all in a secure, maintainable and efficient programming style, of course.

We are looking for someone who is prepared to give a lot to get a lot - we all care very much about what we are trying to create here. We have no time for people who aren’t excellent skill-wise or at least willing to put in the work to get there, brimming with positivity or get-it-done-ness. We want that buzz, we want you to want it, too.

Nuts and bolts wise, from you we need experience:
- Drupal experience (coding modules, not just setting up Views) or unbelievable eagerness to learn
- If you don’t know what a ‘node’ or ‘hook’ is, don’t apply
- Excellent PHP skills (PHP 5; OOP is a plus)
- Can write MySQL queries in your sleep
- Working in a development team with people with a variety of front- and back-end skill sets

You’ll be a more winning candidate to us if you have:
- Experience with jQuery and REST/SOAP interfaces
- Have contributed a module to Drupal.org or are at least an active participant in the community
- Know Python for some really cool other stuff we need
- If you are familiar with things like memcache, APC, Litespeed, Solr

From our side, advantages of joining us are:
- we’re a startup, our growth is your growth

SFE 0.5

I’ve just uploaded SFE 0.5 to Mozilla Addons. Grab it here now or via the update manager when it will be approved.

Changelog:

  • Updated for Firefox 3.
  • Fixed popup position bug (thanks to Steven for reporting this).

Maybe?

Green Carnation started as a death metal band, disbanded after the composer left for Emperor and reformed later changing their style from album to album, becoming less heavier.

The acoustic verses, released in 2006, is, as the name implies, acoustic. It’s a stunning album and I wholeheartly recommend it to anyone, even if the word metal usually scares you. If you can get A night under the dam, their dvd with the album played in a concert which took place several kilometers into the Norwegian mountains, under a thirty-meter-tall dam built in 1939, you’re in for a treat.

Today's discovery: Klaus Nomi

I might as well look as alien as possible because it reinforces a point I am making. My whole thing is that I approach everything as an absolute outsider. It’s the only way I can break so many rules. Remember, my background is totally strange - German classical opera. So I was uncertain about coming from that to rock. It was just as shocking for me to sing opera in a falsetto soprano in Germany. It was another rule I was breaking. You just didn’t do that. And I am helped by the fact that pop and rock, which you would think has no rules at all, is really just as conservative as classical music. So what I do is doubly shocking. The difference is that punk audiences admire that I can shock them. Nothing is sacred to me. Who is making the rules anyhow?

Building Powerful and Robust Websites with Drupal 6 and Selling Online with Drupal e-Commerce

Dries predicted that there will be at least 10 books about Drupal published in 2008. Good news, he might’ve been right.

After Drupal 5 Themes (which, I know, was released in december last year) Packt Publishing just released two new books:

There’s reviews to these books coming these days.

Also Packt will be releasing Learning Drupal 6 Module Development in June and O’Reilly a Drupal cookbook.

NexT Cultural Society

NexT Cultural Society from Romania decided to convert their original static website to something more dynamic and manageable. I was in charge of implementing the new version using, of course, my platform of choice. Drupal. :) You can view the result at http://www.nextproject.ro/ It’s still in beta and there’s a couple of small things to fix.

What it uses:

  • Image and Imagecache
  • Fckeditor
  • CCK
  • Localizer
  • Sifr
  • Webform
  • A custom module (being contributed these days) to extend the menu (to allow specifying a CSS class or id and to decide what user roles see it)
  • A custom module to archive the current festival pages and create a blank structure for a new one
